The Shanghai Golden Grand Prix of 2006 - the track and field event of Shanghai and also a top level sports meeting of IAAF (International Association of Athletes Federation). Hosting such a high level track and field event, will also be an opportunity for China to gain valuable experience for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with more than 15 world record holders and world championship winners. After the 2-hour comp, a concert will feature Macy Gray and Asian superstars such as Leehom Wang (Taiwan) and Karen Mok (Hong Kong). The whole event will be broadcast live to over 30 countries.
 
2006 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix today finally announced the long awaited name list of the local and international track and field athletes joining the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix The name list covers top-notch international and local players, including 2 World Record holders, 10 Olympic Champions, and 12 World Champions who will take part in the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on September 23 at Shanghai Stadium. With the participation of the world’s leading athletes, Shanghai Golden Grand Prix is comparable to Golden Grand Prix in Europe.

In today’s press conference, Shanghai Golden Grand Prix invited three young track and field athletes to announce the names of the athletes. Shanghai Golden Grand Prix also pays secial attention to these young players who are the future of China’s track and field sport. This year Shanghai Golden Grand Prix meeting’s warm up event is young athletes’ competition which will give China track and field fans a better understanding of the future of China’s track and field sport.

Yang Yaozu, champion of the 10th National Games and a member of Team China appeared in today’s press conference. He said he was happy to have the chance to compete with international athletes in his hometown once again to which he considers as a great opportunity to improve himself. Meanwhile, Chinese Athletic Association has built a strong China track and field team for this competition. This Team China gathers the best local track and field athletes, including rising stars who have just shown their talents in the recent IAAF World Junior Track and Field competition in Beijing. Chinese athletes revealed their potential to compete closely with leading international athletes in some sports. It is believed that Liu Xiang would not be alone in competing with leading international athletes in the coming Shanghai Golden Grand Prix.

Among the 14 sports at the Golden Grand Prix, the most exciting principle of sport is men’s 110 metres hurdle. Liu Xiang will have to face competition from three strong contestants from the United States. They are: former Olympic and World Champion Allen Johnson, Olympic Silver Medalist and World Indoor Champion Terrence Trammell, and Dominique Arnold who also broke the world record together with Liu Xiang in Lausanne. It is no doubt that the fierce competition at the men’s 110 metres hurdles game will make it the climax of the day at Shanghai Stadium on September 23. This event also captures the attention of international companies. Nikon Corporation becomes the title sponsor of the highly anticipated men’s 110-metre hurdle.

In addition to being the title sponsor of men’s 110 hurdles, Nikon Corporation is also the presenting sponsor of Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. In today’s press conference, Gokyu Nobuyoshi , Managing Director of Nikon Imaging (China) Sales said 2006 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix brought three major elements to sports fans in China, namely: color, speed and quality. For color, Shanghai Golden Grand Prix brought to China a good mixture of sports and entertainment activities. For speed, Shanghai Golden Grand Prix brought to China the best athletes to demonstrate high speed. For quality, Shanghai Golden Grand Prix produced high quality event and related activities. These three major elements also coincide with Nikon’s product requirements, ie, colorful image, fast shooting speed, and high quality image. Nikon is a worldwide brand name giving much support to sports. Nikon sponsored Figure Skating Competition “Cup of China” , Asian Football Confederation and the 10th National Games last year.

2006 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix is a highly anticipated sports event featuring at least one or two Olympic Champion and World Champion per principle of sport. These athletes come from all corners of the land, including Europe, Africa, America, Asia etc.. It is believed that 2006 Shanghai Golden Grand Prix will become the centre of attention in Shanghai this September.
